INTRODUCTION
TO DIFFERENT
User and prototyping
The design method is based on two things: the user and the prototyping
THE DESIGNER:
beforehand: analyses a market, a demand to satisfy
defines multiple situations for usage, not solely by the end consumer, but by any agent-user taking part in the project’s functional context (assembler, repair engineer, transporter…)
then moves on to technical, human and financial development that will shape the product, its prototyping (creating back and forth exchanges in the whole process), its mode of production, of distribution and, finally, sale
Environmental issues
Because environmental issues complete the functional, technical, and economic concerns and objectives of the project.
and eco-conception
The eco-conception of a product (or service) aims to obtain the minimal environmental impact by analysing its entire life-cycle, from the supply of raw materials to the enhancement/renewal of the remaining waste while considering the distribution and marketing stages too.
IN ECO-DESIGN, THE DESIGNER WILL:
reconsider its value and functionality before developing the product;
with their approach, help to define the initial aims of the project;
formalise all their research through developing a product that coincides with the principles of sustainable design by making it stand the test of time, is independent of trends, adaptable and repairable, is in line with a production and consumer logic causing the least environmental impact possible;
perhaps replace the development of goods (a material product) with a service (an immaterial product). We call this last stage “functional economy” (e.g. Cambio®: I buy the possibility to hire a car in a nearby network, rather than buy a car).
